How to Get There

The farmcan be accessed in three ways:

  • By road, via ferryboat or Barca de Mar Grande, orvia the BR101, circumnavigating the Bay de Todosos Santos.
  • By air, either helicopter or small plane, from the Salvador airport to our landing strip.
  • By sea, with a small boat to Jaguaripe, or a more convoluted one to Camassandi, and for the most adventurous, via the last stretch to the Peralba port.

The easiest way is via the BR324 to Feira de Santana, left on the BR101 to Santo António do Jesus, left again to Nazaré das Farinhasand finally right toward Valença.

14 km after Nazaré, there is a sign saying PALMA on the right. Turn right, and drive 2.8km to the entrance of thePeralba.

Altogether, it is 242 km and takes between 2.5 and 4 hours, depending how often one stops on the way.

One can reach Peralba by car via the ferryboat. This is very easy. With a ferry every hour, in 45/50 minutes, one reaches the Itaparica Island and then it is only 68 km to Nazaré. The crossing is lovely, the road is good, it’s a nice drive!

14 km from Nazaré toward Valença, turn right in the PALMA road, and there you are!
The same trip can be easily and comfortably made if you come on foot.

There is a choice: cross with the ferry or with the small boat to Mar Grande.

If this last option is taken, the terminal is in the old port of Salvador.

In both cases, just take an omnibus or a van to Valença and ask to be let down to the entry of the PALMA road, it is locality known as Jasirú. Call first someonefirst to come and pick you up at the Jasirú…

There is also a taxi driver, Junior, that can pick you up at both location. His telephone is:075-9226 4369 He will take you directly to the Yellow House.

By air

By air is by far the fastest way.

For once, you can see Salvador from the air, the bay, Itaparica, the immense rivers of Jaguaripe and Rio da Dona, the swamps, the mangroves, the forest, thefarm… thelot!
Again we suggest against parachuting as one (loco) friend of ours did and got stuck up a tall tree. By mere chance his screeches of help were heard by a child who ran home screaming that a phantom of the forest was nested on a jacaranda tree! Stupid story and stupid stunt. Theworse was that most villagers believed the child and started to run instead of helping the guy. So they left theestranged energumen dandling from his parachute for a couple of hours more. And to retrieve him was anotherstory, but this time humorous. In the end he lost his parachute (well done) and his confidence (maybe he’ll stop such antiques!), even if in the end we all laughed it all off. Many locals did not: till today they accuse us of bringing souls from heaven with the sole purpose of scaring them…
